Storey — Terms of Service
DRAFT for lawyer review · NOT yet published
Drafted 2026-05-22 · Revised 2026-05-22 (incorporated 20-point review feedback) · Status: DRAFT — do not publish until reviewed by an Indian-law SaaS specialist
⚠️ This is a TEMPLATE. Like the Privacy Policy draft, this captures Storey's specifics honestly but needs review by a qualified Indian-law SaaS lawyer for compliance with the Indian Contract Act, Consumer Protection Act 2019, and IT Act 2000 before being published at
storeyinfra.com/terms.
Terms of Service
Effective date: 5 June 2026 Last updated: 5 June 2026
1. Acceptance of these terms
By creating an account on the Storey application, by signing in to Storey using any method (email, Google sign-in, phone OTP, invite link), or by using any feature of Storey, you agree to these Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy.
If you are accepting these terms on behalf of a company or other organisation, you confirm that you have the authority to bind that organisation, and the term "you" in these Terms shall refer to that organisation jointly with you.
Minimum age. You must be at least 18 years old to create or administer a Storey account. By accepting these Terms you confirm you meet this age requirement.
If you do not agree to these terms, you must not use Storey.
2. About Storey
Storey is a mobile-first site-operations application operated by Storey Infra, an Indian business based in Guwahati, Assam.
Storey is being organised as a private limited company. Until that incorporation is complete, the business is operated by the founder in a sole-proprietor capacity. These Terms will be updated to reflect the corporate entity once it is registered.
2.1 Corporate transition
Upon incorporation, restructuring, conversion, or reorganisation of Storey Infra into a private limited company or any successor entity, these Terms and all associated user agreements, accounts, data, and obligations may automatically transfer to that successor entity without further action required from you. We will notify users of the corporate name change once registration is complete.
3. Beta status
⚠️ IMPORTANT — Storey is currently in BETA and provided FREE OF CHARGE. By using Storey during beta you specifically acknowledge and accept that:
- Features may change, be modified, or be discontinued without notice
- Service interruptions, outages, and degraded performance may occur
- Bugs may exist that we haven't yet identified or fixed
- Data structures, pricing, and access tiers may evolve
- You are using Storey at your own risk with no warranty of any kind
- You should not rely on Storey as your sole or primary system of record for business-critical data during beta
- You should maintain independent backups of any data you cannot afford to lose (Section 5.5)
- You should not use Storey to make irreversible business decisions without independent verification of the underlying data
We commit to communicate material changes openly and in advance where practical, to act in good faith, and to honour the data-protection obligations set out in our Privacy Policy.
3.1 Free beta — what we owe you and what you accept
During the free beta period, the bargain between you and us is intentionally limited and reciprocal:
What we owe you (we do not disclaim these):
- The data-protection duties set out in the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and the IT Act 2000 — including reasonable security safeguards, breach notification, grievance redressal, and the user rights in Section 8 of our Privacy Policy.
- Good faith, honest communication about material changes, bugs, and outages.
- Liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, or gross negligence on our part, to the extent it cannot be limited under Indian law.
What you accept by using the free beta:
- The service is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" with no warranty of merchantability, fitness for purpose, or accuracy of data.
- We do not owe you a particular uptime, feature set, or response time.
- Beyond the non-waivable duties above, our monetary liability for any claim arising from your beta use is capped at ₹0 (zero rupees) — consistent with the absence of fees during this period.
- You — not Storey — are responsible for verifying the accuracy of any data you input or rely on, and for any business, financial, legal, or operational decision you make based on Storey's output.
- You will not use Storey for any purpose where the consequences of service interruption or data loss exceed what you are willing to absorb at zero refund.
This balance is intentional: Storey takes on the duties law and decency require, and in exchange you take on the additional risk that comes with using free, in-development software for your business.
4. Your account
4.1 Account creation
You can create an account using email + password, Google sign-in, or (in preview) phone OTP. You must provide accurate information when creating your account. You must be at least 18 years old (see Section 1).
4.2 Account security
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately at +91 98640 66898 if you suspect any unauthorised access.
4.3 Team access
If you are a contractor administering a tenant workspace, you are responsible for the users you invite to that workspace. Their conduct within your tenant is your responsibility.
5. Your data — ownership and licence
5.1 Your data remains yours
The data you input into Storey — site information, worker data, material records, photos, tasks, expenses, etc. — remains your property. You retain all rights, title, and interest in this data.
5.2 Licence to operate Storey
By using Storey, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, revocable licence to store, process, transmit, display, and back up your data solely as necessary to provide the Storey service to you.
5.3 Your responsibility for uploaded data
You are solely responsible for ensuring that all content, records, documents, photos, worker information, invoices, and any personal information uploaded to Storey:
- is lawful, accurate, and not misleading;
- is uploaded with appropriate permissions and consent from the individuals to whom it relates (e.g. workers, subcontractors);
- does not infringe any third party's intellectual property, privacy, or other rights;
- complies with applicable Indian labour, tax, and data-protection law.
You must not upload sensitive personal information (including but not limited to medical records, biometric data, or financial account numbers) unless it is necessary for legitimate operational purposes and permitted under applicable law.
5.4 Data sovereignty (coming in v1.2)
We plan to introduce automatic daily backups of your tenant's data to your own Google Drive in mid-June 2026. Once active, this gives you an independent copy of your data outside of our infrastructure.
5.5 Backup responsibility (shared)
While Storey maintains operational backups as a routine disaster-recovery measure, you are encouraged to maintain independent copies of critical business records. We do not guarantee that backups will be free of corruption, complete, or recoverable in every scenario, and you should not rely on Storey as your only system of record.
5.6 Data export
You can request an export of your data at any time by contacting us. Exports will be provided in commercially reasonable portable formats (typically CSV, JSON, or ZIP archives) supported by Storey at the time of the request, within 7 working days.
5.7 Data deletion
You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time. We will permanently delete or anonymise your data within 90 days of the request, subject to legal retention requirements (typically tax records or pending disputes).
6. Acceptable use
You agree NOT to use Storey to:
- Violate any Indian or international law
- Infringe the intellectual property rights of others
- Store or transmit illegal content
- Attempt to circumvent our security measures (e.g. bypass tenant isolation, gain unauthorised access)
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, disassemble, or attempt to extract the source code of the Storey applications
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools, bots, or scripts to extract data from Storey beyond features we expressly provide
- Develop, train, benchmark, or operate a product or service that competes with Storey, or any derivative service intended to replicate or replace Storey
- Use Storey or its content to train artificial-intelligence or machine-learning models without our prior written permission
- Interfere with or disrupt the integrity, performance, or security of Storey — including through automated abuse, excessive load generation, denial-of-service patterns, or malicious activity
- Use Storey to harass, threaten, or harm any individual
- Send unsolicited bulk communications through Storey
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute Storey itself (your own use of the service to manage your construction business is, of course, permitted)
- Use Storey for activities that violate environmental, labour, or safety regulations, or to facilitate forced labour, child labour, or unsafe site practices
Violation of these terms may result in immediate suspension or termination of your account.
7. Fees and payment
7.1 Beta period
During the beta period (until public launch, expected mid-June 2026), Storey is free to use for selected tester contractors. We may deactivate or delete beta accounts that have been inactive for an extended period after providing reasonable notice (typically 30 days) to the account email on file.
7.2 Post-launch pricing
Pricing tiers will be introduced at public launch. Pilot users and early-stage testers will receive founder-pricing terms which we will communicate in writing with at least 30 days' notice before any billing begins.
7.3 Future invoicing
Once invoicing begins:
- Fees are payable monthly in advance
- GST will be added as applicable under Indian tax law
- Payment can be made via UPI, bank transfer, or supported payment gateways
- Late payments may result in service suspension after 15 days of non-payment
7.4 Refunds
Pro-rated refunds are available for cancellations within the first 30 days of a paid plan, at our reasonable discretion. After 30 days, fees are non-refundable but you can cancel any time to stop future billing.
8. Disclaimers
8.1 Service "as-is"
Storey is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" during the beta period. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy of data, and non-infringement.
8.2 No professional advice
Storey is a tool to help you manage your construction operations. Storey does not provide engineering, structural, architectural, accounting, taxation, legal, regulatory, compliance, occupational safety, or environmental advice. It does not replace your professional advisors — including chartered accountants, lawyers, qualified engineers, or safety officers. Decisions you make based on data displayed in Storey are your responsibility.
8.3 No guarantee of availability
Storey does not guarantee uninterrupted, timely, secure, or error-free availability of the service. Scheduled maintenance, upgrades, third-party service interruptions, or unforeseen outages may temporarily affect access. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to minimise downtime and to communicate planned maintenance in advance.
8.4 Automated insights
Any automated reports, suggestions, forecasts, alerts, or recommendations generated by Storey — whether produced by deterministic logic or by artificial-intelligence / machine-learning features that we may introduce in future — are informational tools only. They are not a substitute for professional judgment, on-site verification, or qualified advice, and should not be relied on as the sole basis for material business decisions.
8.5 Third-party dependencies
Storey relies on third-party services (Supabase, Vercel, Resend, Google Play Services). We are not responsible for outages or failures in these underlying services, though we will work to minimise their impact on your use of Storey.
8.6 Internet connectivity
Storey is designed to work offline for many features (attendance, daily logs, photos, expenses) but a working internet connection is required for some features (live reports, transfers between sites, team coordination). We are not responsible for issues arising from your internet connectivity.
8.7 Construction and operational outcomes
⚠️ LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED — draft language, not yet validated.
Storey is a digital record-keeping and coordination tool. It does not build, supervise, manage, schedule, or control any construction project, site, worker, vendor, or material. All construction work, decisions, supervision, and outcomes remain solely and entirely your responsibility.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Storey and its owners, directors, employees, and contractors are not responsible or liable for, and you will not hold us liable for, any of the following, whether arising directly or indirectly from your use of (or inability to use) Storey:
- construction delays, stoppages, or schedule overruns;
- cost or budget overruns, financial loss, or lost profits;
- structural defects, workmanship issues, or quality failures;
- workplace accidents, injury, death, or occupational-safety incidents;
- material shortages, wastage, theft, pilferage, or stock discrepancies;
- labour, attendance, wage, or sub-contractor disputes;
- regulatory, permit, GST, tax, statutory, or compliance failures;
- inaccurate, incomplete, delayed, or lost data entered by you or your team;
- any decision you, your team, or any third party makes in reliance on information displayed in, calculated by, or exported from Storey.
You acknowledge that Storey reflects only the data you and your team enter, that such data may be incomplete or incorrect, and that you are responsible for verifying anything material against the physical site and your own records before acting on it.
9. Limitation of liability
⚠️ LAWYER REVIEW REQUIRED — §9.0 below is new draft language.
9.0 Free, trial, and pilot users (no fee paid)
If you are using Storey without paying any fee — including any free beta, trial, evaluation, pilot, or demonstration access — you acknowledge and agree that:
- you are using Storey voluntarily, at your own risk, solely to evaluate whether it suits your business;
- Storey is provided to you free of charge, "as is", with no warranties and no service commitments of any kind;
- to the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you is zero (₹0), and we are not liable for any loss or damage of any kind — direct or indirect — arising from your use of or reliance on Storey, including (without limitation) any construction delay, business loss, lost profit, cost overrun, or data loss;
- no free, trial, or pilot use creates any commitment, guarantee, service-level obligation, or partnership between you and Storey.
This clause applies in addition to §8.7 (construction and operational outcomes) and the limits in §9 below.
9.1 General limits
To the maximum extent permitted by Indian law:
- Cap on liability: Our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from or related to your use of Storey is capped at the fees you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim. For free, trial, or pilot users this cap is ₹0 (see §9.0), except where law requires otherwise.
- No consequential damages: We are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages — including but not limited to loss of profits, loss of business opportunity, loss of goodwill, or loss of data not caused by our gross negligence.
- Force majeure: We are not liable for failures or delays caused by events beyond our reasonable control. This includes, without limitation: natural disasters; floods, earthquakes, or cyclones; fire; war or civil unrest; pandemic or epidemic; strikes or labour action; government, regulatory, or judicial orders (including internet shutdowns or blocking orders); failures or outages of third-party cloud, hosting, or telecommunications providers; electricity or power-grid disruption; cyber-attacks; or any other event of a similar nature beyond our reasonable control.
Nothing in these terms limits any liability that cannot be limited under Indian law (e.g. for fraud, wilful misconduct, or gross negligence).
10. Intellectual property
10.1 Storey's IP
Storey's software, designs, brand, logos, documentation, copy, illustrations, user interface, screen designs, workflows, database schemas, and any other materials related to the service are owned by Storey Infra (and, upon incorporation, by Storey Infra Pvt Ltd). These Terms grant you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the service for your own internal business use — they do not transfer any IP rights to you.
10.2 Anti-competition / anti-cloning
Without limiting Section 6, you specifically agree not to use Storey, its interface, documentation, or any data accessible through it for the purpose of building, training, benchmarking, or marketing a competing product or service. This restriction survives termination of your account.
10.3 Feedback
If you provide feedback, suggestions, feature requests, bug reports, or other input to us (including during the beta period), we may use that feedback to improve Storey without obligation, compensation, or attribution to you, unless otherwise agreed in writing. You grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use such feedback for any purpose related to the development, operation, and improvement of Storey.
11. Termination
11.1 By you
You can terminate your account at any time via the in-app account settings, or by contacting us. Termination triggers the data retention and deletion process described in our Privacy Policy.
11.2 By us
We may suspend or terminate your account if:
- You materially breach these Terms
- We're required to by law or regulatory action
- You haven't paid an invoice within 30 days of its due date
- Your conduct poses a security risk to Storey or other users
- We have reasonable grounds to suspect that your account is being used for fraud, forgery, falsified records, money laundering, evasion of statutory dues, or other illegal activity
- Your use of Storey enables or documents serious violations of labour law, child-labour prohibitions, occupational-safety rules, or environmental regulations
- We detect activity consistent with automated abuse, scraping, excessive load generation, or attempts to compromise the service
For non-emergency terminations, we'll give you 30 days' written notice and a chance to remedy the issue. For security-, fraud-, or compliance-related terminations, suspension may be immediate.
11.3 Effect of termination
Upon termination:
- Your access to Storey ends
- Your data is retained for 90 days for re-activation, then deleted
- Any outstanding fees become immediately due
- Sections of these Terms that should reasonably survive (e.g. disclaimers, liability limits, IP restrictions, governing law) continue to apply
12. Security incidents
In the event of a material security incident affecting your personal data or business records stored in Storey, we will:
- investigate the incident promptly;
- take reasonable steps to contain and remediate it;
- notify affected users within a commercially reasonable timeframe consistent with applicable Indian law (including the Digital Personal Data Protection Act 2023 and the IT Act 2000); and
- notify relevant regulatory authorities where required by law.
Our internal incident-response process is described in our internal
runbook (docs/INCIDENT-RESPONSE.md). If you believe you have
discovered a security vulnerability in Storey, please report it
confidentially to security@storeyinfra.com or via WhatsApp at
+91 98640 66898.
13. Electronic communications
By creating a Storey account and using the service, you consent to receive electronic communications from us, including:
- account-related notices (password resets, sign-in alerts);
- service-related messages (maintenance, outages, feature updates);
- transactional messages (invoices, payment receipts, billing reminders);
- security and incident notifications;
- product announcements relevant to features you use.
These communications may be sent by email, in-app notification, WhatsApp (to the number on file), or SMS. You may opt out of non-essential product announcements but cannot opt out of service-related and security communications while your account is active.
14. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. For material changes:
- We'll update the "Last updated" date
- We'll notify active users at least 30 days before the change takes effect, via email + in-app notification
- Continued use of Storey after the change indicates your acceptance
- If you don't agree, you can terminate your account before the change takes effect
For non-material changes (e.g. clarifying language, fixing typos, contact information updates), we may update without advance notice.
15. Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these Terms or your use of Storey shall be subject to:
- Good-faith negotiation first — please contact us at help@storeyinfra.com to discuss any concern.
- Mediation if negotiation fails — through any mutually agreed mediator in Guwahati.
- Arbitration if mediation fails — by a sole arbitrator appointed by mutual agreement, conducted in Guwahati, in English, under the Indian Arbitration and Conciliation Act, 1996. The arbitrator's award shall be final and binding. Either party may elect arbitration at its discretion before commencing litigation.
- Exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in Guwahati, Assam, for any matter that cannot be resolved through the above, or for urgent interim relief.
16. Miscellaneous
- Precedence with Privacy Policy: In the event of any conflict between these Terms and our Privacy Policy regarding the handling of personal data, the Privacy Policy shall govern with respect to that personal-data handling.
- Severability: If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
- Entire agreement: These Terms, together with our Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding Storey, superseding any prior agreements.
- No waiver: Our failure to enforce any provision does not waive our right to enforce it later.
- Assignment: You may not assign these Terms without our written consent. We may assign these Terms in connection with a corporate reorganisation, conversion to Pvt Ltd, or sale of the business (see Section 2.1).
- Notices: We may communicate with you via the email address you provided, via WhatsApp at the number on file, or via in-app notification. You should communicate with us via help@storeyinfra.com or WhatsApp +91 98640 66898.
17. Contact
For any questions about these Terms:
- Email: help@storeyinfra.com
- WhatsApp: +91 98640 66898
- Postal correspondence: Storey Infra, Guwahati, Assam, India. Until our private limited company is incorporated and a registered office is published, please use email (help@storeyinfra.com) or WhatsApp (+91 98640 66898) for all correspondence — both are monitored 7 days a week and are our primary channels of record.
ℹ️ During the beta period, support contact is routed through the founder directly. Once the Pvt Ltd is incorporated and Storey scales, these will be replaced with a dedicated support number, a registered office address, and a support sub-domain (e.g. support.storeyinfra.com).
These Terms were drafted in good faith by Storey's founder with domain-knowledge support, not legal expertise. They have been revised once to incorporate a 20-point structured review. They still require review by a qualified Indian-law SaaS lawyer before being relied on for commercial purposes.
